Third Coast Percussion | Soundcheck and interview at MoMA

Earlier this month in New York, Third Coast Percussion performed works from their ongoing program entitled REVOLUTION: The Cage Century.  This included the premiere of their latest commission, RENGA:Cage:100, in which 100 composers were asked to submit five to seven seconds of music.  The order of the miniatures were then determined by chance operations.  You can hear excerpts of the Cagesque mashup in the video above.  You can also check out various score submissions at Third Coast’s blog.

I’m especially looking forward to a video of the performance, not only to hear my own five seconds, but to see the execution of the entire work.  In some ways, just hearing the piece doesn’t do it justice; what begins as notation ends as theatre.  Whether intended or not, “there are things to hear and things to see, and that’s what theatre is.”
